Cataract Extraction without Iridectomy.
IN cataract surgery iridectomy or iridotomy has been done as a general rule since 1864, when von Mooren first introduced it (Bellows, 1944). Different types of iridectomies have been advocated by various surgeons. Chandler in 1890 suggested a pin-hole peripheral iridectomy (Knapp, 1947), and Harrington (1949) also concluded that peripheral iridectomy was better than a complete iridectomy. Kirby...

Extracapsular cataract extraction with lens implant under local anaesthesia consisting of amethocaine drops followed by a simple subconjunctival injection in the upper part of the globe but without a retrobulbar injection was carried out in 175 eyes of 165 patients. The purpose of the study was to establish the feasibility of this type of anaesthesia in cataract surgery with the principal objec...
متن کاملBilateral cataract: extraction in classic haemophilia with retrobulbar anaesthesia and peripheral iridectomy.
A 47-year-old factor VIII deficient haemophiliac successfully underwent bilateral cataract extraction. The use of cryoprecipitates to achieve haemostasis permitted retrobulbar anaesthesia and a peripheral iridectomy without complication. We consider that the use of cryoprecipitated factor VIII concentrate allows safe elective ocular surgery in patients with classic haemophilia.

Day-case cataract surgery and the need for local anaesthesia are likely to increase. Retrobulbar (and peribulbar) anaesthetic injection is a common technique in cataract surgery, but serious complications are persistently reported. Subconjunctival injection is an alternative that avoids these risks. This retrospective study compares two groups of patients that underwent extracapsular cataract s...

On May 16 the left pupil was inactive to light and by June 28 the fundus examination showed a secondary type of optic atrophy with some narrowing of the vessels. 'I'he right eye was normal throughout and, when seen in November 1935, was quite healthy, with 6/6 vision after correction. We infer that the massive lesion of the optic nerve wa...
